STISTED VILLAGE ARCHIVE
What is the Stisted Archive?
Stisted Archive is an ongoing collection of historical artefacts, texts, maps and photographs charting the story of Stisted from earliest times to the present day.
It is your archive and we include your own stories as recorded through our Oral History programme and through donations of documents and artefacts. Perhaps you want to find out more about your family history…there may be something for you in the Archive.
The Archive includes books, images, historic maps and written records by current and former members of the Stisted community, and we look to you as well for new material from your own family histories which can form such an important part of the Stisted story.
Where is the Stisted Archive?
The Archive is based in the Fairhead Archive Room towards the rear of the Village Hall courtesy of the Village Hall Trustees, and this is where we base our programme of displays and exhibitions in addition to the Village Hall itself, Montefiore Institute and beyond, such as Braintree Museum. We now have an Archive Garden, designed and created by local volunteers and we welcome visitors to both the Archive and the Garden.
We have digital versions of many of our hard copy documents, photographs and artefacts.
You will also find Archive articles in the Parish Magazine, Parish Council Newsletters, Stisted Community Whats App and Stisted Village Facebook. We are supported by Essex Heritage Trust and other local bodies and have good links with Braintree Museum.
Who looks after the Stisted Archive?
Although the Archive is all of us, past and present, we do have a group of volunteers, all of whom take on different roles. A small hardworking collective that enjoys researching Stisted’s history, and they do what they can to open this up to the community.
You can help too, by sharing stories or historical maps, objects and documents that we might be able to scan or photograph for the collection. Perhaps you might like to help with our projects?
We look forward to seeing you at one of our future exhibitions or just book via the e mail below to come and visit.
